Breaking news: man arrested by bees in Kasama after stealing phone shop
Residents of Kasama town were left in disbelief after a man who allegedly broke into a phone shop was dramatically arrested by a swarm of bees said to have been sent by spiritual healer Dr. Mawanda of Chiengi District in Luapula.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was seen running through the market screaming for help while covered in angry bees that had attacked his face, neck, and arms. The man reportedly confessed that he had stolen several mobile phones from a local shop earlier that morning.

Witnesses claim the bees began circling the suspect moments after the theft, forcing him to drop the stolen items and kneel down in pain. Shop owner Mr. Sinyangwe, who had earlier sought spiritual help from Dr. Mawanda after multiple thefts, said he was shocked but relieved.
“I had lost four phones in the past week. I called Dr. Mawanda for help. He told me not to worry — that whoever was responsible would be caught in a way no one would forget,” Sinyangwe told reporters.
Within hours, the suspect appeared on the streets surrounded by bees, pleading for forgiveness and promising to return everything.
Dr. Mawanda warns others against theft and dishonesty
When contacted, Dr. Mawanda confirmed he was aware of the incident but urged the public not to view his spiritual work as harmful. “I only use the power of truth to expose wrongdoers,” he said. “Anyone who does good has nothing to fear.”
Police officers later rescued the suspect and took him to Kasama Police Station for questioning after the bees reportedly dispersed on their own.
Residents have praised Dr. Mawanda for what they describe as “divine justice,” saying his intervention has restored order and fear among petty thieves in the area.
