National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Saboi Imboela has strongly condemned the ruling UPND, accusing it of attempting to destabilise opposition political parties and allegedly plotting to take over the NDC.
In a fiery statement issued on 30th March 2026, Imboela criticised what she described as a “fake convention” allegedly held at a Government Lodge by individuals claiming to represent the NDC but working with UPND.
Imboela said the alleged move was sad but not surprising, accusing the ruling party of using intimidation, arrests, and forceful tactics to weaken the opposition.
She warned that the NDC will not allow anyone to hijack the party, stating that since 2021, the party has faced repeated attacks which she claimed the public may not even be aware of.
“We warn all impostors that we will not allow anyone to hijack our party,” she stated.
In one of the most viral parts of her statement, Imboela issued a strong warning to those behind the alleged scheme, saying if UPND wants a political fight, they should send “real contenders.”
“If you are looking for a fight with me and the NDC, bring your A-game and real contenders, bring real men to the fight and not the mashed potatoes you have assembled. We are ready for you and we shall eat you for breakfast,” Imboela said.
The NDC leader further accused UPND of being obsessed with destabilising opposition parties because it fears democracy, adding that Zambia’s one-party system ended in 1991 and plural politics must be respected.
She also clarified that the NDC is making progress in its internal party processes, revealing that the party has successfully completed seven provincial conferences and is preparing for its national convention next month after concluding the remaining three provinces.
Imboela claimed the party’s steady growth is worrying the ruling party, alleging that government agents are monitoring NDC conversations and movements because more people are reportedly joining the party daily.
“As a government that likes eavesdropping on all our conversations, I’m sure they hear how on a daily basis people call us from across the country to join us,” she stated.
She emphasised that she remains the only Commander-in-Chief of the NDC and directed party members to remain focused on mobilisation and engaging citizens across all provinces, despite the alleged interference.
Imboela ended her statement by calling for divine protection over the country and praying that anyone plotting against democracy and the NDC would be exposed.
The statement was issued by Saboi Imboela, President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
