Chasefu Independent Aspiring Member of Parliament Captain Towani Chipeta says the youth in Chasefu District must be empowered through entrepreneurship, as it offers the most sustainable pathway out of poverty.
In a statement ahead of Youth Day, Chipeta highlighted that many young people aspire to create businesses but face barriers such as limited access to start-up capital, weak market linkages, and inadequate training in modern business practices.
She observed that the absence of incubation centres and mentorship programmes leaves many youths without guidance in transforming ideas into viable enterprises.
Chipeta explained that while agriculture remains central to the district’s economy, there is untapped potential in crafts, creative industries, and renewable energy ventures that could generate jobs for young people.
She noted that poor transport and digital infrastructure hinder youth entrepreneurs from reaching wider markets and accessing online opportunities.
Chipeta remarked that cultural heritage in Chasefu, including traditional ceremonies and crafts, could be harnessed to build tourism-related enterprises led by young people.
She emphasised that entrepreneurship must be elevated as a cornerstone of youth development, enabling innovation, resilience, and self-reliance.
Chipeta pledged to establish youth business hubs equipped with digital tools, training facilities, and mentorship networks.
She further committed to strengthening access to microfinance, promoting cooperative enterprises, and linking youth entrepreneurs to national and regional markets.
She promised to mainstream youth entrepreneurship into district development planning, ensuring that young innovators and business leaders shape Chasefu’s future growth.
