Care International Zambia Country Director Chikwe Mbweeda has emphasized the need to create more robust pathways for women in leadership at all levels because their participation in decision making is a formidable tool to attain a just society.

Speaking yesterday when she paid a courtesy call on Acting President WK Mutale Nalumango, Ms Mbweenda stated that economic empowerment and education are some of the key enablers for gender equality.

She says it is for this reason her organization in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Community Development is creating pathways either back to school or to employment and economic opportunities for out of school adolescent girls and young women in Eastern Province.

Ms. Mbweeda also says CARE’s strategic focus is on addressing underlying causes of poverty, with a theory of change that further narrows down focus on women and girls with priority programs being climate justice; women economic empowerment; health with a focus on community systems strengthening and gender equality among others.

Meanwhile, Acting President WK Mutale Nalumango commended CARE for focusing on the economic empowerment for women and girls, emphasizing the need to focus on value chain development to enable them become active participants on the market.

Mrs Nalumango further reiterated the commitment of the Government to decisively root out poverty which she declared as an injustice.
