A caretaker in Mazabuka’s Motel Compound has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing from his landlord.

Bruce Ng’andu, aged 35, was charged with theft contrary to Section 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

The offence occurred on 28th July 2024, when Ng’andu stole two mattresses, a tent, two wheelbarrows, two drums, two iron sheets, a wooden door, and a stool, altogether valued at K14,460, property of Olen Muyale.

When he appeared before Magistrate Edward Chisanga for judgment and sentencing, Ng’andu admitted to the charge.

However, he denied stealing the drums and wheelbarrows, stating that he took the other items to use as collateral because he needed to borrow money from a lender.

In mitigation, Ng’andu mentioned that he had three children in his care and expressed remorse for his actions, pleading for leniency from the court.
