CHAKUNKULA Ward 37 Councillor Chimuka Njoomona says his office is now considering of activating the “emergency” Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to work on dilapidated roads in the ward.

This follows numerous complaints by residents from Chelstone over the state of roads in the area, among them, Ngwerere Avenue that has been extensively damaged around the small market area.

Others include the road behind Chelstone clinic and feeder road branching off from district road coming to the small market, as well as most feeder roads that have become impassable especially for motorists.

And Njoomona attributed the problem to the rains as well as lack of a proper drainage system.

“During rainy season we consistently experience a significant number of roads being damaged and washed away and I concur with your concerns that the majority of our roads are in a dilapidated state,” he said.

The area councillor says the local authority through, engineering department’s road maintenance unit at the Lusaka City Council has since been engaged for prompt action, much to the relief of residents.

“It is like we are not doing anything when we have roads in Chelstone that are currently being upgraded like the Chelstone – Bazaar road just for reference,” read a post on his Facebook page.

The civic leader has also appealed to the local authority’s performance contractors to conduct regular cleaning and road maintenance.

He further urged residents to desist the indiscriminate disposal of waste which contributes to the blocking of drainages.

“You will witness prompt action with no further incidents of vehicles being swept away or disappearing will occur,” he added.
