Chief Mailo of the Lala people of Serenje District, Central Province, has traditionally handed over 204 hectares to Century Solar Africa.
The Traditional Leader stated that the project aims to construct solar facilities to be integrated into the National Grid, helping to alleviate Zambia’s power supply deficit.
He revealed that the project has a budget of $122 million and will be executed in phases.
Chief Mailo added that each phase will last six months and generate 25 MW of power.
He said the total power generation capacity of the project is 100 MW.
The Traditional Leader said the project is expected to create 900 jobs.
Chief Mailo urged fellow chiefs to assist the Government in finding solutions to the power deficit.
He emphasized that the company undertaking the project should prioritize gender considerations during employment and urged that local people be given first preference for job opportunities.
