Chiinda appeals to ECZ for voter transfer window after Kalingalinga shift to Roma

By Francis Chipalo

Munali Constituency parliamentary hopeful Chrispin Chiinda has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to provide a temporary window for voters to transfer to polling stations in their preferred wards.

Chiinda’s appeal comes after the ECZ today announced 70 new constituencies, with certain wards re-allocated.

Kalingalinga Ward has been moved to Roma — one of the newly created constituencies in Lusaka — leaving Munali Constituency with Chakunkula, Chainda, Kalikiliki, Mtendere and Munali wards.

“I sympathise with my supporters in Kalingalinga and appeal to ECZ to provide a temporary window to allow voters transfer to polling stations they would want to vote from,” Chiinda said.

He however noted that the constituency’s name, Munali, remains unchanged, saying history has been preserved. ECZ could by press time not be reached for a comment.

Meanwhile, Chiinda has since declared his readiness to contest as Munali Member of Parliament. He is expected to face competition from comedian Thomas Sipalo and former Munali teacher Patrick Samwimbila, among others.
