Chilanga MP Hlazo delivers K35m School named after First Lady

Chilanga Member of Parliament Sipho Hlazo has delivered a K35 million secondary school for Namalombwe Ward after lobbying Wonderful Group of Companies to fund the project under Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Mutinta Hichilema Secondary School was officially commissioned by First Lady Mutinta Hichilema, who praised Hlazo for initiating and driving the project.

“I commend Hon. Hlazo for lobbying for this school. This is what happens when leaders put people first,” Mrs. Hichilema said during the handover ceremony, which coincided with her birthday.

And Hlazo said he conceived the project in December 2024 and approached Wonderful Group chairman Wang over the urgent need for a secondary school in the fast-growing Namalombwe and Kasupe areas.

“I shared a proposal with Mr. Wang. Without hesitation, he said, ‘Find the land and I will build the school,’” Hlazo recalled.

The modern facility has 15 fully furnished classrooms, two science laboratories, ablution blocks, three staff houses, an administration block, solar lighting, desks, and school bags.

“As a constituency, we could not be more proud to have this school named after you, Your Excellency. This will forever remind us of the transformative improvements this country is experiencing under President Hakainde Hichilema,” Hlazo said.

He added that the project proves community-focused leaders can unlock development through CSR partnerships, and urged residents to protect the school and keep children in class.

The commissioning was attended by Education Minister Douglas Syakalima, Commerce Minister Chipoka Mulenga, permanent secretaries, and senior government officials.
