A 30-year-old man from Chingola has died while six other people sustained injuries after a Tata truck they were travelling in overturned on the Kitwe-Chingola Dual Carriageway.
According to a statement issued by Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi and made available to YAR FM News, the fatal road traffic accident occurred near Anthenion Wholesale in Chingola.
Police said the Tata truck was carrying seven passengers when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeding, causing it to overturn.
Commissioner Yuyi identified the driver as 37-year-old Nomelo Lambulo of Chikola Township in Chingola. The vehicle was extensively damaged in the crash.
The accident claimed the life of one passenger, a 30-year-old Chingola resident, while six other occupants survived with injuries.
The injured victims were rushed to Nchanga North General Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination and subsequent burial arrangements.
The latest accident adds to growing concerns over speeding and reckless driving on Zambia’s major highways, with road safety experts continuously urging motorists to observe traffic regulations and speed limits to prevent avoidable loss of life.
Police have since reiterated calls for drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially on dual carriageways where excessive speed often contributes to serious and fatal accidents.
