A WALK in near Luangeni Village graveyard yesterday morning crowned two men as eye witnesses to the commission of a crime by 50-year-old man found on top of a 23-year-old mentally disturbed woman.
Facts in this matter as shared with TV Yatu by Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba are that, the victim who is of unsound mind was home alone when Spriano Phiri, 50, asked her to follow him in the bush.
Mweemba explains that, Phiri, who is disabled, led the victim into a bush near their village graveyard around 10:00 hours in the morning and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
While on top of her, two men walking by spotted Phiri. On looking carefully, the two men identified the lady he was allegedly abusing and immediately sped off to alert the girl’s mother.
When the mother rushed to the bush, she found the two in a compromising position.
On separating the two, mother to the victim rushed her dear daughter to Mwami Hospital Police Post, and reported the matter.
A medical report form was issued and Police say they yet are to apprehend the suspect.
