May 23, 2025 – Police in Chisamba District have launched investigations into a shooting incident that left one person dead and another wounded. The incident occurred on May 23, 2025, around 02:00 hours at Fish Pond Gold Mine Camps in the Chipembi area.
The matter was reported to police by Eddy Mwandu, aged 21, a small-scale gold buyer from Mukululu Compound in Kabwe.
He reported that his cousin, Gift Mwandu, aged 29, and another individual, Victor Mulenga, aged 35, had been shot at by unknown persons.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were asleep in their tent when they heard gunshots outside around 02:00 hours. When they stepped out to check, they saw three unidentified individuals at a distance. Another gunshot was fired in their direction, striking both victims.
The reporter fled the scene but later returned and found the two wounded.
The victims were taken to Chipembi Rural Health Centre, where Gift Mwandu was pronounced dead on arrival. Victor Mulenga was later referred to Liteta Hospital for further treatment.
The suspects fled the scene and have not yet been identified. The firearm used, believed to be a shotgun, has not been recovered.
Investigations are ongoing.
The Zambia Police Service appeals to anyone with information that could assist in apprehending the suspects to report to the nearest police station.
