Coffin Found Abandoned at Lusangazi Home, Police Launch Investigations

Lusangazi, Zambia – April 2026 – A resident of Lusangazi District in Eastern Province was left in shock after a small coffin was discovered abandoned at his house in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The incident has been confirmed by Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, who said the coffin was found around 04:00 hours in Sichili Village, under Chief Sandwe.

Homeowner Was Away on Business

According to police, the homeowner has been identified as Solomon Banda, aged 47, who was reportedly away on business at Sasali Mine at the time of the incident.

Mr. Mweemba explained that the house was being looked after by Mr. Banda’s nephew.

Nephew Discovers Coffin, Reports to Headman
Police stated that the nephew was the one who discovered the coffin and immediately reported the matter to the local headman, who later alerted the Zambia Police Service.

The coffin was described as small and brown, with white paint on the base.

Police Confirm No Body Found Inside

Upon arriving at the scene, police officers inspected the coffin and confirmed that there was no dead body inside.

The coffin was later collected by police and secured for safety as investigations continue.

Authorities have not yet revealed who abandoned the coffin or the motive behind the act.
