With only three days to go before the Copper Queens face USA in their opening match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Zambians back home are all geared up to cheer the queens.
The ladies are in Group B and are expected to battle it out with the United States, Germany, and Australia.
Their opening match will be against the USA on Thursday, 25 July at 9 pm.
Copper Queens are making their second appearance at the Olympics the first one being the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games hosted by Japan.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga in his weekly column dubbed “The President’s Corner” has urged all football enthusiasts to rally behind the ladies.
“Our appeal is for Zambians to rally behind the Copper Queens as they fly our flag high. Every patriotic Zambian is obliged to support the Copper Queens and any other athletes flying our flag in France. Considering this is our second Olympic appearance, we are confident that we will build on the lessons of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games experience. Our players have now played at the FIFA World Cup, Olympics and won bronze at the WAFCON putting them in good poise ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics” part of his column reads.
The official opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be on Friday 26 July 2024.
