THE Road Transport and Safety Agency-RTSA, has expressed at the death of 32 people in various road traffic crashes recorded during the Easter holiday countrywide.
RTSA Acting Head-Public Relations, Mukela Mangolwa, says the Agency is concerned with the high number of crashes recorded in Lusaka Province that stood at 207, followed by Copperbelt Province and Central province.
He attributed the accidents to excessive speed, human error and non-adherence to road rules among motorists.
The country recorded a total number of 338 road traffic crashes resulting in 32 deaths.
Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of fatalities and was followed the by Copperbelt Province.
The increase in deaths represents a 33.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, Mangolwa notes that 63 motorists were nabbed across the country for driving under the influence of alcohol during a joint operation with the Zambia Police Service Traffic Section.
He notes other notable offences recorded during the operation as expired road tax at 326, expired test certificate at 145, expired certificate of fitness at 47, plying for hire at 56 and expired identity at 70.
Others include unlicenced drivers at 37, unlicensed PSV drivers at 13 and use of unregistered motor vehicles at 55.
