Jere Gets UNESCO Appointment
Zambian lawyer Dickson Jere has been appointed as Board Member of the UNESCO-ICM project to represent the African continent effective next month for period of three years.
Jere will be on among the governing body of the UNESCO-ICM, which is based in South Korea and was established in 2016 to promote martial arts and culture especially among the youths and students.
“I am excited with the appointment and I look forward to contributing to this noble cause at the international level,” Jere said after he received news of his appointment.
He also thanked the African Union Sports Council for nominating him as well as the Zambian government for endorsing and supporting his candidacy during the nomination process.
The journalist-cum-lawyer described the nomination process as rigorous and required the UNESCO Member States to endorse the candidates through their National Commissions.
“I Thank all those who played a role in the process including our embassy in France,” Jere said.
Jere, who also served as State House spokesman under President Rupiah Banda, was recently appointed as a Panel Member of Arbitrators at ICSID at World Bank based in Washington. He also serves as Member of the UN – World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) List of Neutrals.
The Zambian lawyer is renowned sports administrator currently serving as Board Member of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Zambia and the OYDC Zambia. He is also past President of the Zambia Judo Association.
Jere is founding President of Teqball Federation of Zambia, President of New Monze Swallows FC, co-founder of Esports Federation of Zambia and sports lawyer for a number of athletes and federations in Zambia.
