DOCTORS are demanding for a salary increment or else they will strike, by March 1 this year.

While most couples were in a lovey-dovey mood preparing presents and surprises for their beloveds, medical doctors met to air their grievances on the ‘poor’ salaries.

Valentine’s day could not hearten them as they were serious, like a patient in an intensive care unit (ICU) and resolved to have a 10.5 per cent increment to their salaries.

They gave an ultimatum, through an internal memorandum issued by Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) secretary general Monday Sichula.

The doctors stated that if the 10.5 per cent increment to their salaries is not actualised before March 1, 2023, they will suspend their services.

“Resident Doctors Association of Zambia will continue representing the interests of the members and ensure the doctors are not deprived of the (financial) rewards other managers are receiving in the same system,” read the memo.

Sichula stated RDAZ will continue engaging the relevant offices until the demands are met.
