United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Chipata All Saints congregation members yesterday prevented the usual service to protest against the alleged transfer of their minister-in-charge Reverend Collins Bulaya by the presbytery bishop, Jones Mutembo.
The aggrieved members, mainly youths, locked the gate to the church building before some members broke the locks using a grinder.
However, despite unlocking the gate, those against the transfer blocked worshippers from having access to the pulpit as they chanted ‘Tiikosesa [we are making it hard]!’

“We want the presbytery bishop himself to come and address us and not anyone else,” one of the protesting members said. “Otherwise, there will be no church service here today.”
By 12:00 hours, the service had not started as members were still waiting for the bishop to address them.
Later, congregation vice-secretary Samson Funga said calm had been restored at the church after a meeting between aggrieved members and leaders.
Mr Funga said confusion started as result of some members demanding that their concerns be heard by the presbytery bishop.
“After a lengthy talk with members of the church as well as leaders, everything has been resolved and people who had concerns are now happy,” he said.
Mr Funga said things are back to normal and a midweek service will be conducted as usual.
