The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has strongly dismissed what it described as false and malicious allegations circulating on the Patriotic Front Facebook page regarding the alleged planned disqualification of presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu.
In a press statement issued on May 27, 2026, the Commission said claims suggesting that ECZ Chairperson Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis SC was plotting to ban, sanction, or disqualify the two candidates are completely fabricated and misleading.
According to the ECZ, the allegations should be treated “with the contempt they deserve.”
The Commission clarified that its Chairperson, acting as Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, had already officially declared Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu as duly nominated presidential candidate and running mate respectively during the recently concluded nomination process.
ECZ stated that it was dishonest and irresponsible for individuals to spread claims suggesting that the same Commission was secretly attempting to reverse a lawful process it had already completed.
The Commission further denied allegations linking the Chairperson to statements concerning church services, funeral gatherings, and alleged campaign violations, describing all such claims as entirely fictitious and never issued by the ECZ.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission expressed concern over what it called the growing abuse of social media platforms by some political actors to spread misinformation aimed at misleading the public and undermining confidence in the electoral process.
“The ECZ will not allow its name, integrity and constitutional mandate to be abused by individuals seeking political mileage through falsehoods and manufactured controversy,” the statement read.
The Commission has since urged members of the public to ignore fake claims circulating online and rely only on official statements issued through verified ECZ communication platforms.
