As part of measures to reduce the cost of doing business, the New Dawn Government has removed all costs on semen and sperms.
Going forward in the year 2022, semen will not attract any tax after the government abolished the 5% tax that the former government had imposed on the life-giving syrup.
The measure is part of the measures in the agriculture sector to allow farmers import high quality semen from exotic cattle breeders outside Zambia and fertilise the local cows so as to improve the quality of local cattle breeds.
Currently, about a table spoon of cattle semen costs about $16 which was too expensive for most farmer.
