As the count down to the 2026 elections continue, international mining expert Engineer. James Chirwa has announced his bid to contest the Mufulira Central Parliamentary seat in the general elections.
Chirwa, a Rock Engineer working at one of the leading mining giants in West Africa says time has come for the people of Mufulira Central to have their voice amplified and heard in parliament.
Eng. Chirwa notes that Mufulira Central has lagged behind in terms of development largely due to poor representation.
The mining expert has disclosed that he will contest the Mufulira Central seat under the opposition New Heritage Party (NHP) led by Chishala Kateka.
Meanwhile, Eng. Chirwa has disclosed that his first priority as Mufulira Lawmaker is to address the water and sanitation challenges in the constituency.
‘’The residents of Mufulira are going through a lot of hardships. Look at the water and sanitation situation in the area. It is decimal. Why is the Government failing to address this issue? Why is the area lawmaker not addressing these historical challenges?”
“My first task will be to squarely address this matter. We cannot subject our people to poor service provision. Time to move on is now. Mufulira deserves better”, Chirwa stated.
Eng. Chirwa declared that he wants to see a prosperous Mufulira Central, adding that he has an agenda for the district that envisages and seeks to transform the lives of many.
“I will be on the ballot come August 2026. I have done my home work and victory is certain. I pledge to ably represent the people of Mufulira Central. We still have bad roads in our town, 60 years after independence. The health care system is none functional. Classrooms are bloated and CDF is not reaching the intended beneficiaries. Its total chaos. I will certainly scoop this seat,” He added.
Eng. Chirwa has since urged Mufulira residents to rally behind him and NHP leader Kateka and all aspirants under the party vying for elective positions if Zambia is to see meaningful change.
