A 44 – years – old man has died in a road accident that happened today at the junction of Acacia and Great East Road in Chelstone area.
Austin Vwaali a resident of Minestone who was driving a Subaru car registration number APB 2242 lost his life after being involved in an accident with a FAW tipper truck whose driver fled the accident scene.
Particulars of the other driver are not yet certain as he was still at large, but his truck is bearing registration number AIE 6831.
Police spokesperson Rae Haemoonga says preliminary investigations have indicated that the accident occurred when the driver of the truck lost control and fell onto the Subaru after attempting an improper overtaking maneuver, resulting into the deadly accident.
Unfortunately, Vwaali whose vehicle was extensively damaged was pronounced dead upon arrival at Levy Mwanawansa Hospital after the sustaining fatal injuries.
“Further investigations into the matter are ongoing as the driver of the truck is on the run but efforts to locate him are underway” Haemoonga has told the media in a statement.
The accident occurred around 16:30 hours and was reported at Chelstone police.
Motorists have since been reminded to always exercise caution when on the road.
