The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to correct misinformation suggesting that former Chipolopolo Coach Avram Grant was paid to end his contract.
FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande says the separation between FAZ and Grant was entirely mutual and did not involve any severance payment.
Shepande says Football House has noted misleading statements circulating on social media and some news outlets claiming that FAZ paid Grant US$277,222.99 (K6,387,516) as part of a contract termination arrangement.
He has since clarified that the figure mentioned did not represent a separation package. Instead, it reflected part of the outstanding amount owed to the Israeli coach at the time both parties agreed to separate.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the figures cited in the financial report during yesterday’s reconvened AGM refer solely to monies owed to the coach, not a separation package. In fact, most of the outstanding amount accumulated long before the the Keith Mweemba administration took over,” said Shepande.
He says the current administration simply cleared the backlog it found.
Shepande has urged the media to verify information before publication to avoid misleading the public.
