GOV’T OPTIMISTIC OF POSITIVE OUTCOME FOLLOWING A MEETING WITH FIFA DELEGATE & FAZ
Yesterday, we welcomed FIFA Director Member Associations Gelson Fernandez who paid us a courtesy call at our office.
FIFA Director Member Associations Gelson Fernandez who is in the country on a fact-finding mission in the wake of the crisis that has rocked Zambian football leading to the 2023 FAZ Annual General Meeting being aborted following a High Court order occasioned by Mr Damiano MUTALE and journalist Mr Mavuto Phiri.
Following a fruitful meeting held at Zambia’s Ministry of Sports headquarters here in Lusaka shortly after the arrival of the FIFA delegate in the Country, the Government through our Ministry wishes to express optimism that no sanctions will be slapped on Zambia by the World Football governing body -FIFA.
We urge the soccer fans and supporters as well as the country at large not to worry as the outcome of the meeting is anticipated to bear a positive mark on Zambian Football.
The country may also wish to know that the meeting with the FIFA delegate, did address a lot of significant things among them issues patterning to the growth and development of Zambian Football as well as the wrangles that had engulfed the sport.
Also, during the meeting, FIFA Director Member Associations Gelson Fernandez revealed a visit of FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Zambia next month.
We wish to state that it will be a huge honour for Zambia to host FIFA President GIANNI IFANTINO who is expected to visit the country next month if matters are well concluded.
We further state that the would-be meeting with the FIFA President will bring a lot of positives for Zambian Football as there are a lot of things that must be discussed.
Meanwhile, the FIFA envoy is expected to report back to Zurich his findings in Zambia which is expected to provide closure on the matter that destabilized the Zambian game in recent weeks.
