Fight Inequality Alliance (FIA) Zambia has paid tribute to the Government for recommending the revocation of work permits for Chinese supervisors accused of manhandling a female employee at Zamfresh.
In a statement, FIA Zambia National Coordinator Mputa Ngalande commended the authorities for taking a firm stance in defence of workers’ rights and the preservation of human dignity.
Ngalande emphasised that this decision sends a robust message that exploitation and abuse in the workplace will no longer be tolerated under any circumstances.
He pointed out that protecting employees from mistreatment is essential to upholding a fair and respectful employment environment for all Zambians.
Ngalande further highlighted that the move demonstrates the Government’s commitment to enforcing the Employment Code Act, ensuring that employment is synonymous with safety rather than subjugation.
He underscored that FIA Zambia remains deeply concerned about systemic inequality, noting that in some cases foreign nationals appear to evade justice while locals are swiftly penalised.
The Coordinator asserted that true justice requires all individuals to be held to the same standard of discipline, as the Employment Code Act mandates that everyone deserves equal treatment regardless of nationality.
Furthermore, he called for all employers to maintain strict professional discipline, ensuring that internal conduct aligns perfectly with the legal framework of the Republic.
Ngalande noted that while foreign investment is welcome, it must never come at the cost of the fundamental rights or the physical safety of the Zambian workforce as protected by law.
He urged the Ministry of Labour to continue its vigilance to ensure that every workplace remains a space where the Employment Code Act is respected and inequality is actively dismantled.
On Monday, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security charged Sunshare group of companies K160,000 for non issuance of contracts and payslips to its employees.
The Ministry also suspended operations at Sunshare Investments old factory for non issuance of personal protective equipment to its workers.
