Zambian recording artist Frank Ro has officially announced the end of his recording agreement with Olijaba Entertainment, confirming that he will now continue his music career as an independent artist.
In a statement shared on his social media pages, Frank Ro described his departure as the close of an important chapter filled with growth, learning and unforgettable memories. He thanked Olijaba Entertainment for believing in his vision and helping shape him into the artist he has become.
The singer said the label would always hold a special place in his heart, describing it as more than just a business partnership but a family that contributed significantly to both his personal and professional growth.
“As I enter this new season of my career, I am excited to announce that I will be moving forward as an independent artist. This transition represents a new opportunity for growth, creative freedom, and a deeper connection with my supporters,” Frank Ro stated.
He also stressed that there was no bad blood between him and the label, saying he was leaving with gratitude and respect for everyone who had been part of his journey.
Shortly after the announcement, Olijaba Entertainment CEO Macky, popularly known as King Bugar, shared his own reaction, admitting that he was disappointed by the development but maintained that his comments were intended as a lesson for the music industry rather than a personal attack.
Macky said Olijaba Entertainment invested time, resources and belief in Frank Ro because they saw greatness in him. He noted that while the label considered its artists family, it also remained a business entity that depended on professionalism and mutual commitment.
“I think I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. But this isn’t about me. It’s about respect for the craft and the business that sustains it,” Macky wrote.
He further stated that Zambia’s music industry would only grow if both artists and record labels respected business agreements instead of operating on emotions alone.
Macky also expressed concern that the manner in which artists leave record labels could influence how future talents are treated, saying loyalty should be viewed as a two-way street.
Despite his disappointment, the Olijaba Entertainment boss praised Frank Ro’s talent and wished him success as he embarks on his independent journey.
“Frank, I still believe in you the same way I did the day we signed you. You’re incredibly talented with a bright future ahead of you. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but success on your new path. My doors will always be open if you ever need me,” Macky said.
The exchange between Frank Ro and Macky has attracted widespread attention from music fans, with many praising both men for handling the separation respectfully and without public hostility.
Frank Ro now joins a growing list of Zambian musicians choosing to pursue independent careers after working under established record labels, a move that often provides greater creative freedom while placing more responsibility on artists to manage their own brands, music releases and business affairs.
As fans await Frank Ro’s next musical project, many will also be watching to see how both the artist and Olijaba Entertainment evolve following the end of their successful partnership.
