G7 PUPIL KILLS SELF OVER PHONE
A 16-year-old Grade 7 pupil of Walela Primary School in Chipata has committed suicide after allegedly being questioned for using her grandmother’s mobile phone without permission.
Rachael Singogo, who resides in Walela, is believed to have taken her life on Sunday by taking a poisonous tablet after being warned by her grandmother not to use her mobile phone again.
According to the police, she took her grandmother’s phone on Saturday and when she returned, her grandmother, who was not pleased that she went away with the gadget, warned her not to use it again.
Eastern Province deputy police commanding officer Stephen Mayoko said after the victim took the tablets, she was rushed to Walela Clinic, where she was later referred to Chipata Central Hospital.
However, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chipata Central Hospital.
Mr Mayoko said police inspected the body at Chipata Central Hospital and it had no physical injuries.
“Brief facts are that the now deceased on April 13, 2024, at an unknown time, took a phone for her grandmother Manjase Lungu and when she returned she was warned not to use it again,” he said.
Mr Mayoko said the family proceeded with burial as no foul play is being suspected.
