Government has been commended for recruiting 465 teachers with disabilities in the latest recruitment exercise.
Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD), Director General, Mr. Frankson Musukwa, is happy with the inclusive recruitment process that has met the 10% threshold reserved for persons with disabilities as prescribed under Section 39 of the Persons with Disabilities Act.
He said the development reaffirms the New Dawn Administration’s commitment to inclusive development and mainstreaming of disability across all sectors.
Mr. Musukwa has however encouraged those who have not made it on the list, to resubmit their documents to the agency by 31st January 2024, to allow for relevant authorities to be involved to ensure priority and consideration is given to them in the 2024 recruitment.
He has further called upon the Teaching Service Commission and other Public Service Commissions to include the Agency on the recruitment panel in their future recruitments, as the Agency plays an integral role in ensuring that eligible persons with disabilities are not disadvantaged.
Mr Musukwa has since urged teachers with disabilities to exhibit discipline, commitment and dedication to serve the country’s education system and contribute to better outcomes for learners and the sector.
