Government is building 103 houses at Kamoba Village in Luangwa District as a mitigation and adaptation measure for the Climate stressed communities along Luangwa River.
Luangwa Town Council (LTC) Social Economic Planner Ngosa Kunda says the housing project is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure of which majority of the beneficiaries are those affected by perennial floods.
Ms Kunda thanked Kamoba Community for accepting the project adding that Government is currently building 50 houses while 53 more will be built in the next phase.

“The beneficiaries cannot sale or rent out the houses further stating that Government will provide roads, water and electricity,” she said.
This came to light at a Multi Stakeholder Dialogue organised by Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) which is implementing a project dubbed “Strengthening Civil Society Voices for Climate Advocacy in Zambia”, funded by United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), covering five districts namely Lusaka, Chirundu, Luangwa, Chongwe and Rufunsa.
And Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) Executive Director Maggie Mwape said her organisation is happy to note that Government is leading the way in mitigation and adaptation to Climate Change.
Ms Mwape said the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) are important documents developed by Government to respond to Climate Change.
“CEJ will continue to compliment Government efforts in fostering Environmental Protection,” she said.
Ms Mwape said the transformative initiative aims to empower Civil Society Organizations in Zambia to play a pivotal role in advocating for climate action and environmental sustainability.
She said the success of Zambia’s National Adaptation Planning (NAP) processes and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs) implementation in the country hinges on the participation of several stakeholders including the Civil society movement.
“It is for this reason that CEJ is building the capacity of CSOs in climate adaptation and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions,” she said.
