Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, has called for stakeholder coordination in the implementation of the Children’s Code Act.
Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba has therefore implored state, and non-state actors, such as the Civil Society Organisations, to fully understand the new law in order to promote awareness on its provisions that are meant to promote and protect children’s rights.
Speaking when she officiated at the orientation workshop of the Children’s Code Act, to Civil Society Organizations in Zambia, Ms. Mwamba acknowledged the role of CSO’s in the effective interpretation and implementation of the law, with a call for collaboration in a coordinated approach for more impact.
She said children are a foundation for any community, hence the need to operationalize the law to protect them in all aspects.
“This marks the start of a very important era in the child development sector, and my Ministry is placing emphasis on child development as a national affair” She said.
And European Union Deputy Ambassador, Mr Bruno Hanses described the Children’s Code Act as progressive and comprehensive, hence the need to highlight how positively it will
contribute to work on prevention and response to
violence against children.
He said the European Union will therefore continue to partner with Civil Society Organizations in order to highlight all the provisions of the law, as he emphasized that investing in children
is one of the best investments a country can make.
“Studies have shown that children who are healthy,
educated, and have access to opportunities are more
likely to grow up to be productive members of society” he said, and called for partnerships that will help disseminate the information regarding issues to do with children’s affairs.
