Government says it is investing heavily in cyber security infrastructure to catch all those behind online scams and those spreading harmful content online.
Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati says government wants to protect all it’s citizens and children online hence it’s investment in digital Infrastructure.
Mr. Mutati says the internet, especially Facebook, has become a place of misinformation, defamation, online gender based abuse and online scams.
Speaking when he held a joint press briefing with Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Hon. Jacob Mwiimbu in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Mutati warned scammers that their days are numbered.
He said online abuse has the potential to cause physical and mental harm to citizens.
He assured the nation that government wants to protect all citizens online.
And Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Hon. Jacob Mwiimbu has warned that those who spread propaganda, hate speech and those who commit online crimes are liable to five years imprisonment.
Mr. Mwiimbu says the spread of false news has become rampant and has the potential to cause insecurity in the nation.
He says the sharing of unverified content is being conducted on a daily basis and is a threat to the peace of the nation.
Mr. Mwiimbu has urged Zambians to be responsible online and not go against the law.
