GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES CHOPPIES-LED THINK! MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
16th January, 2026
The government has launched the THINK! Management Development Programme, a private sector–led initiative by Choppies Zambia, in partnership with the University of Zambia (UNZA), which is aimed at developing future managers and leaders for its business.
Officiating at the launch, Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, MP, said the programme complements the New Dawn government’s agenda on human capital development, youth empowerment, and skills development.
He noted that under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, government has prioritised youth empowerment through free education, skills development, job creation, and strong public-private partnerships to drive economic growth.
Hon. Nkandu said the THINK! Programme responds directly to the need for work-ready young people by bridging the gap between classroom learning and the workplace.
He highlighted the retail sector as a key contributor to employment and economic activity, adding that trained managers are essential for its continued growth.
The THINK! Management Development Programme is an 18-month initiative aimed at developing future managers and leaders for Choppies Zambia, targeting fresh university graduates.
The programme combines theory and practical training, focusing on leadership, customer service, innovation, technology use, and effective decision-making.
The Minister has commended Choppies for investing in youth and the University of Zambia for supporting industry-driven training.
He urged participants to remain disciplined and committed, stating that strong collaboration between youth, business, and education is key to Zambia’s progress.
