GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES KK DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT 2025 TO HONOUR FIRST REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT
LUSAKA — The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has today officially launched the Kenneth Kaunda Day Golf Tournament 2025, a landmark event set to take place on 28th April at the State House Golf Course in Lusaka.
Speaking during the launch, Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Honourable Elvis C. Nkandu, MP said the tournament is a special tribute to Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, Zambia’s founding President, whose life embodied peace, unity, African dignity, and service to humanity.
“This is more than just a golf tournament. It is a heartfelt celebration of KK’s enduring values, and a reflection of his love for sport, particularly golf, which he used as a tool for discipline, reflection, and leadership,” the Minister said.
The event will feature participation from veteran golfers, rising young talents, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and the corporate sector. Separate tee-off sessions will be arranged for junior and senior golfers, culminating in a prize-giving ceremony.
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards Cheshire Homes, in line with KK’s commitment to charitable causes, education, and youth empowerment.
The Minister has further encouraged provinces, districts, schools, churches, and community groups across Zambia to hold their own commemorative events on KK Day. Activities such as community service, sports competitions, cultural performances, and public lectures have been encouraged as meaningful ways to honour the Father of the Nation.
