Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta says the Government has made significant progress in addressing maternal mortality in Itezhi-tezhi District, Southern Province.
Mr Mutinta said the Government is currently constructing a fully furnished maternity annex at Mutenda Health Post 1 in Itumbi Ward, with Malushoz General Dealers as the contractor.
The Lawmaker expressed confidence that the development will contribute to reducing maternal deaths, aligning with President Hakainde Hichilema’s goals.
He said the Maternity Annex is funded through the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation and is expected to serve over 20,000 people.
The Member of Parliament stressed that Itezhi-tezhi has faced challenges related to maternal mortality, exacerbated by malaria-related diseases affecting pregnant women.
Mr Mutinta said the investment marks the district’s first-ever maternity annex, and it is set to open for public use within a month.
