A grade 11 pupil of Choma Day Secondary School Southern Province has been found murdered at her parents’ house, with police suspecting that she was sexually assaulted before her death.
The deceased was discovered dead on December 16, 2025, in the sitting room of the family house by her 12-year-old brother, who had just returned from church.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo says the boy found the house door locked, with the key lying on the ground and after opening the door, he discovered his sister lying naked on the floor in the sitting room.
Mr. Namalongo explains that the boy alerted a police officer who resides in Macha Road Compound who followed him to the house, confirmed the report, and immediately contacted the police.
He says officers rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased lying naked in the sitting room, with blood stains observed on the floor and a pounding stick stained with blood was found near the door, while a ladies’ pant suspected to belong to the deceased was discovered a few metres away from the body.
Mr. Namalongo has further revealed that physical examination of the body showed a deep cut at the back of the head, bleeding from the nose, and a fluid suspected to be semen on the genital area and samples were collected for forensic examination.
He adds that preliminary investigations indicate that a male person identified only as Kelvin, whose other details are not yet known, was seen near the scene wearing a blue work suit.
The Police South Chief says police later established that the same individual had been admitted to Choma General Hospital after allegedly ingesting unknown chemicals in a suspected suicide attempt.
Mr. Namalongo says Police officers rushed to the hospital and confirmed that the man was admitted and wearing the described work suit.
He further adds that physical inspection revealed stains of suspected semen on his trousers. He is currently in critical condition and unable to talk, and has been placed under police guard as the main suspect in the matter.
Mr. Namalongo says the suspect’s trousers have been collected and preserved for forensic analysis, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at Choma General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.
