Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile says people have lost hope because President Hakainde Hichilema did not address issues regarding Konkola Copper Mines – KCM and Mopani Copper Mines – MCM while on the Copperbelt.

Mr. Mundubile, a PF Presidential Candidate, said President Hichilema should avoid such trips but focus on addressing the Dollar at K21, fuel at K29, ZESCO Connection Fees from K750 to K14,000, no medicine in hospitals, giving fertilizer in medas, excessive bus fares and high cost of mealie meal.

“When it was announced that President Hichilema was going to the Copperbelt, we all became very expectant especially the people on the Copperbelt,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said the desperate economic situation on the Copperbelt was such that people were waiting for Government to take action on MCM and KCM.

“They received the news of the President’s visit to the Copperbelt with a lot of joy,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said before President Hichilema came into power, he undertook a trip to the USA where he got pledges of up to 25 Billion US Dollars, with investors waiting for UPND to take over Government before honoring the pledges.

“The President has also undertaken a number of trips from the time he assumed power to America,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said the people on the Copperbelt were sure that he was going to unveil the big investment portfolio from the USA and many other countries where he got pledges earlier.

“We are shocked that from the time that he went to the Copperbelt there has been no major pronouncements on the fate of KCM and MCM,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said the people on the Copperbelt were now coming to the conclusion that President Hichilema had no solution for the people on the Copperbelt.

“It is very sad because this was like the last straw that people waited for,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said the President should call for a National Indaba where other stakeholders should come in to try and assist Government because UPND had clearly struggled to find solutions to challenges.
