SOLWEZI, Zambia – President Hakainde Hichilema has named Garry Nkombo, Elijah Muchima, Newton Samakayi, and Elias Mubanga as members of the United Party for National Development (UPND) whom he says voted against Bill 7.

Speaking at Solwezi Airport, President Hichilema said the actions of the four had the potential to undermine some of the government’s key achievements, including the Free Education Policy and reforms aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance and leadership.

The Head of State emphasized the importance of loyalty and unity within the ruling party, particularly among UPND members in North-Western Province.

President Hichilema urged party members to remain committed to the party’s agenda and support initiatives designed to improve the lives of Zambians and strengthen democratic governance.

The President is currently in North-Western Province, where he attended a church service at SDA Chawama and is expected to engage UPND party structures during his visit.

Bill 7 remains one of the most talked-about political issues in Zambia, with supporters arguing that it contains important governance reforms, while critics have raised concerns about some of its provisions.
