Home grocery shops in city communities are contributing to substance abuse among youth, selling cheap alcohol and possibly drugs, says Munali parliamentary hopeful Thomas Sipalo.

Sipalo claims some shops have hidden bars selling illicit alcohol and drugs, disguising sales as groceries.

He says a clean up is needed asap, saying; “let’s restrict alcohol sales to bars only”.

Sipalo argues that the major contributor of junkies is easy access to cheap alcohol popularly known as (junta) and drugs fondly known as Volo among users as well as Codeine allegedly been sold in these shops.

He added that there is need to instal order in order to keep communities safe.

Home shops mostly foreign owned usually close whenever authorities are conducting compliance patrols, and many people have wondered why such happens and have even suggested an investigation against law enforcers be conducted.

Zambia has in recent years seen an influx of foreigners who have taken the grocery business by storm especially in the capita Lusaka.
