A 16-year-old juvenile of Choma District has told the Choma Magistrates Court that he stole from a Shepard Bushiri lead Church because he wanted money to buy “swag”.
This is in a matter where the juvenile is facing two counts of breaking into a building and committing a felony therein.
In the first count, on March 10, 2024, the Defendant, whilst jointly working together with other persons unknown, did break into the Enlightenment Christian Gathering Church and stole two microphones and two pairs of curtains, all valued at K3, 500.
When called to take plea before Magistrate Muyambango Munukayubwa, the juvenile pleaded guilty to the offense.
And in the second count on the same date, the juvenile, whilst jointly working together with other persons unknown, did break in the Zambia Educational Publishing House building and stole ten assorted books valued at K5, 000.
Whilst admitting to breaking into the building, the juvenile offender denied getting anything, telling the court that he only pushed the shelf that had books and left.
The court has since recorded a plea of guilty in the first count and a plea of not guilty in the second count.
The State applied for an adjournment in the matter for the presentation of the written statement of facts, with the Court setting April 5, 2024, for trial.
