The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority – ZICTA- has given Infratel and IHS Towers a 21-day deadline to submit measures to improve network quality across the country.
ZICTA Director General COLLINS MBULO says the move is aimed at ensuring that the ICT sector, which forms the backbone of Zambia’s digital economy, remains inclusive and reliable.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. MBULO said the persistent deterioration in the quality of electronic communication services is worrying and poses a direct threat to the country’s digital transformation agenda.
Meanwhile, Mr. MBULO has directed all network providers to install strong backup power systems to maintain uninterrupted service during power outages.
He further urged providers to adopt sustainable energy solutions to minimize downtime and enhance network stability.
Mr. MBULO also emphasized the need for mobile network operators to expand infrastructure to increase capacity and coverage, particularly in underserved and rural areas.
