SOME men freeze at the mere mention of lobola or weddings, and a Catholic priest has advised ladies who notice such traits to utilise their heels and sprint faster than the way internet bundles deplete on 5G.
In a mix of humour and hard truths, Father Chalwe Chonde warned women against men who promise marriage but suddenly develop selective amnesia when it comes to lobola.
“If you promise your friend you will marry them, honour your promise. Not when you are asked to bring lobola then you start saying impiya shaba mu mobile,” Fr Chonde cautioned.
He observed that some men freeze like a computer at the word wedding, but immediately spring to life when it’s time to play around.
“What he wants is fun, not commitment. Immediately you come across such a man, open your eyes and run as fast as you can.”
Fr Chonde didn’t spare the hopeless romantics either.
He added that men who swear they will treat women like princesses after marriage often deliver more drama than romance.
“You just keep saying it will balance in bemudas but instead, you are just growing old waiting for promises that never land,” he said.
He noted that most credible people are often those who don’t make loud promises but follow through action, urging men to speak and fulfill because that’s where blessings and power come from.
Turning to married women, Fr Chonde acknowledged that some may feel like giving up because marriage has become tough.
“I receive complaints from many of you women in marriages saying you want to retire because it’s becoming hot, ati ndeunfwa ukupena olo ukufwa. (I feel like going crazy, or like dying) Some of you even ask to go on holiday but you need to be strong because if you aren’t, you might disadvantage your children, so just continue,” he stated.
“In the old days, our parents used to argue but still they forged ahead and stayed together so you aren’t the first ones. Be strong, koseni and God will continue blessing you.”
