A 26-year-old woman of Katete has been arrested after allegedly injuring her husband so badly during a domestic dispute that doctors were forced to remove one of his eyes.
According to Kalemba, the incident happened on Sunday around 20:00 hours in Ibex Compound, Katete District, when the husband reportedly returned home late.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed that the suspect, Rabbeca Sakala, accused her husband Jasel Mwanza, also aged 26, of infidelity, sparking a heated argument that quickly escalated into violence.
Police say during the quarrel, Sakala allegedly picked up a stone and struck Mwanza in the left eye, causing severe injuries.
The victim later reported the matter at St. Francis Police Post before being rushed for medical attention.
Sadly, the injuries were so serious that medical personnel had no option but to remove the damaged eye, leaving Mwanza permanently disabled.
Breeze FM reports that Mwanza is currently admitted to St. Francis Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, Sakala has been picked up by police and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Police have since urged couples to resolve misunderstandings peacefully, warning that acts of violence in homes are destroying families and leaving lasting scars.
