Two employees of Kingsmill Bakery and Investment in Choma district have been left stranded after what they called as unfair dismissal from their work place by their Director only identified as Azim.

Mathews Tembo (in white) and Edison Kabwata (in red) who were employed by the bakery in Kalomo district were on Monday summoned to Choma by their Company Director, who allegedly accused them of theft and fired them on Wednesday.

The duo visited Byta FM Radio Station and claimed that the Company Director and the Manager have been abusive to their employees.

Kabwata claims that the Bakery’s employees work from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours each day, without any off days, even during periods of illness.

Kabwata also alleged that he was fired for eating two slices of bread after he had a reaction resulting from his health condition of having stomach ulcers.
And Tembo says last week, because of exhaustion, he erroneously recorded that 99 loaves of bread had been baked instead of 100.

But during stock taking, 100 loaves of bread where found to have been baked and all were untampered but was later surprised that he was accused of attempting to steal one.

Tembo said he would not have attempted to steal for the company for any reason and besides, the bakery has security cameras.

He further explained that a review from the security cameras showed that he did not steal any loaf of bread on the material day.

The two claimed that the employer tells them that the Labour offices in Choma and Kalomo districts cannot do anything to him as he has enough money to bribe them.

But when contacted for a comment, Company Human Resource Manager identified as Martin Kaswaya blasted at the Byta FM News Reporter and warned him to stay away from the matter involving his company’s former employees as it amounts to interference.

“This one can’t be a news. Let me tell you one thing, I’m Zambian, protected by the ZAMBIAN constitution. And actually me I’m above you, that’s one thing you should know. You just want to stick one small thing, no! It’s uncalled for! It’s uncalled for,” shouted Kaswaya during an interview with Byta FM Reporter, Micheal Nyumbu.

Kaswaya boasted that he will contact the Minister of Labour Brenda Tambatamba so that the matter does not go anywhere.
Kaswaya further said Byta FM Zambia should instead focus on other matters affecting the district instead of getting involved in the affairs concerning the bakery.
