IMMIGRATION REMOVES 58 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND SECURES 19 CONVICTIONS ON THE SAME DATE

IMMIGRATION REMOVES 58 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND SECURES 19 CONVICTIONS ON THE SAME DATE.

On Tuesday, 6th January, 2026, The Department of Immigration removed a total of forty-eight (48) Ethiopian nationals from Zambia through Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Among those removed are thirty-nine (39) Ethiopian nationals who were apprehended on 23rd November 2025 in Kapiri Mposhi District after being discovered concealed in a fuel tanker. Following their apprehension, the suspects were jointly charged, appeared before the Magistrates’ court and were convicted and fined for the offence of failure to appear before an Immigration officer contrary to Section 12(2) of the Immigration and Deportation Act no.18 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia. The court imposed various fines which were paid by the convicted persons.
Upon completion of the court process and settlement of the imposed fines, the Department proceeded to effect their removal from the country. The remaining nine (9) Ethiopian nationals were removed after being found in contravention of the Immigration Laws and were subsequently processed for removal in line with the established procedures.

Meanwhile the Chongwe Immigration Office also removed a total of ten (10) foreign nationals comprising of eight (😎 Pakistani and two (2) Bangladesh nationals after they paid court-imposed fines for offences committed under the Immigration and Deportation Act.

On the same day, the Immigration Headquarters secured three (3) convictions involving two (2) Burundian nationals and one (1) Tanzanian national for failing to appear before an immigration officer and unlawful stay .The convicted persons were fined amounts ranging from K8, 000 to K30, 000 in each count with default sentences of between three (3) and nine (9) months simple imprisonment.

The Lusaka Regional Immigration Office also secured convictions of nine (9) Pakistani nationals for the Offences of failure to appear before an Immigration officer and unlawful stay. The individuals were convicted and fined amounts ranging from K5, 000 to K32, 000 in each count or 3 to 9 months simple imprisonment.

Further the Serenje Immigration Office secured convictions of seven (7) Pakistani nationals who were convicted and fined K7,500 each in default to one (1) month Simple Imprisonment for the offences of failure to appear before an Immigration Officer and unlawful stay, bringing the total number of convicted Pakistanis to sixteen (16).
