India says it stands ready to support interventions that will help to improve the welfare of the vulnerable in society through skills development.

Indian High Commissioner to Zambia, Mr. Ashok Kumar, has pledged support to the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, to enhance skills development.

This came to light when Mr. Kumar paid a courtesy call on Ministry Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, to discuss various issues on skills development, women empowerment, among others.

He said India appreciates Zambia’s efforts in uplifting the welfare of the poor and vulnerable and would want to understand the full scope of various empowerment programmes under the Ministry, so that appropriate help with good timelines are put in place in order to render support.

He stated that the Ministry should expect a consignment of sewing machines, in the next few months, that will be taken to various skills training centers across the country, after all logistical considerations are dealt with.

Mr. Kumar further appreciated the impact the skills training centers are making, despite limited operational capacity.

And Ms. Kawandami is happy that India who has been Zambia’s development partner for time immemorial, has once again expressed commitment to help the country to develop in various sectors of human development.

Ms. Kawandami said the Ministry is expectant to continue with long standing developmental partnership with India in various social protection sectors.

She reiterated that the Ministry endeavours to continue it’s objectives of reducing vulnerability in the country, and is glad therefore that various areas of corporation with India are being considered for possible partnerships.
