Independent Aspiring Council Chairperson for Rufunsa, Ireen Chikatula, has handed over a borehole to residents of Talabuku village in Mankhanda ward.
She underlined that clean water is a fundamental necessity and questioned how leaders could rest while some communities remain without access.
Chikatula explained that the initiative was humanitarian rather than political, stressing that one does not need to hold office to address community challenges.
She highlighted the wider impact of the borehole, noting that women and children will benefit from reduced time spent fetching water, improving health and education outcomes.
“Livestock and gardening activities will also thrive, enhancing food security and livelihoods in Rufunsa’s water-stressed climate,” she said.
Chikatula emphasised that the project aligns with principles of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and contributes to long-term sustainability.
She assured voters that proven leadership is what they will gain by electing her as Council Chairperson.
