Travelers going to Chawama have today been treated to free rides from Kulimatower bus station courtesy of Chawama local resident Timothy Kantenga.

Meanwhile, Kulimatower station chairman Nicholas Banda has announced that commuters will on 4th June be treated to free bus rides from the station to their destinations.

Banda said the gesture is in celebration of President Hakainde Hichilema’s 63rd birthday which falls on 4th June, having being born on this date in 1962.

Banda said, in thanking the President’s restoration of sanity in bus stations and particularly Kulimatower, his leadership will continue showing gratitude to government on special occasions by offering free rides to the traveling public.

He also said bus operators and Kulimatower traders were grateful with UPND’s ending of cadreism in bus stations, free education being offered to children of bus operators and other citizens, as well as the construction of the Ndola – dual carriageway which he said would reduce traffic accidents on the great north road once completed, among others.

“On 4th June 2025, all those born during this President’s birth month, as well as anyone aged from 60 years and above will get to travel free from the station to their destinations,” Banda said.

He added that persons with disabilities as well as visibly expectant mothers will also get to ride free on the same day, further stating that traders around the bus station will also benefit from the gesture.

Meanwhile, Kantenga who is also UPND Chawama aspiring Member of Parliament has pledged to sponsor 63 buses on June 4th that will offer free rides to passengers going to Chawama.

Kantenga has today sponsored 15 buses that ferried passengers from Kulimatower to Chawama and also encouraged the Banda – led station management to continue with such gestures having done the same in the recent past.

The aspiring parliamentarian has since endorsed Hichilema as President in next year’s general elections, adding that his team will no doubt deliver the Chawama Parliamentary seat to the ruling UPND in 2026.
