Veteran filmmaker Jeff Sitali is today being put to rest in Ndola, on the Copperbelt.
Sitali died in a fire incident at his residence in Ndola.
Police Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said Sitali aged 75 was choked by the smoke as he burnt waste when cleaning his yard.
The man famous for his role in the old Colgate TV Advert was discovered burnt in a sitting position by passersby.

“Brief facts of the matter are that on Tuesday September 5th, 2023 at around 09:00 hours the victim, Jeff Sitali decided to clean the surroundings at his residence. Before he could do that, he decided to go to the nearest shops and bought a packet of matches where he even interacted with Bernadette Mwansa aged 30, a mobile money booth attendant who was in company of other booth attendants. The victim informed that his yard had a lot of dry grass and needed to put fire breakers in his yard to prevent his house from burning down,” Mr. Mweemba said.
Mweemba clarified that the source of fire was not an electrical fault.
“Onlookers saw a huge fire in the same yard and got concerned so they went to assist by jumping the wall fence in an effort to put off the fire. From there they discovered the burnt body of the deceased and subsequently the matter was reported at the police station,” he said.
