K1,746,231 FROM CDF 2024 IN ITEZHI TEZHI ALLOCATED TOWARDS PROCURING IRRIGATION EQUIPMENT TO MITIGATE DROUGHT

Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has announced that K1,746,231 from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) 2024 has been allocated towards procuring irrigation equipment to mitigate drought.

Mr Mutinta stated that following the Presidential directive and the declaration of drought as a national disaster, the people of Itezhi Tezhi are committed to embarking on large-scale irrigation along the Kafue River.

He explained that the initiative aims to mitigate the drought situation, which has adversely affected food security.

The Lawmaker mentioned that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Chiefs, and relevant stakeholders, the CDF committee reallocated 50% of the loan allocation for 2024 towards procuring the equipment.

He said the initiative will support community livelihood programs and provide animals with access to clean water.

Mr Mutinta highlighted the procurement of an Livestock Watering Points in Mbila under Chief Shezongo, benefiting over 1,927 animals, and another in Chief Musungwa’s area, benefiting over 2,316 animals.

He also mentioned the procurement of a Rain Gun Sprinkler under Chief Chikaza Munyama to benefit local farmers, and a Mini Centre Pivot for irrigation in Lubanda under Chief Chikaza Munyama to support local community farmers.

Mr Mutinta expressed confidence that they will overcome food insecurity and climate change challenges.

He thanked the chiefs for allocating large pieces of land to the government for irrigation farming.

He also called upon partners, stakeholders, and donors to support their initiatives.
