A transformer powering water supply in some parts of Ndola has been vandalized by unknown criminals, leading to a disruption of water supply in the area.
And Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, has expressed sadness with the vandalism of the transformer deemed critical infrastructure belonging to Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company Limited (KWSC) in the Misundu area of Ndola.
The theft has affected three boreholes belonging to the company, and thereby, disrupting water supply to residents.
Affected areas includes the northern part of Ndola, resulting in erratic water supply to areas including Mitengo, Dola Hill, Twapia, Hillcrest, Kansenshi, Northrise, Nkwazi, Chifubu, and Pamodzi townships.
Police has however instituted investigations into the increasing cases of vandalism targeting vital water supply infrastructure.
As a temporary mitigation measure, the sanitation company has dispatched a water bowser to the affected areas to cushion the impact on residents while efforts to restore normal operations are underway.
Meanwhile, Kafubu water, working in collaboration with the police, has intensified patrols in areas prone to vandalism in order to safeguard critical water supply infrastructure.
